Jun. 5th, 2008 01:13 pm Small town GSA does it again!

Well I can honestly say that I am VERY proud to be associated with the seedling club at Centralia College.

When I attended myself and a few Non traditional friends started several clubs... GSA still reigns!

I hope that I can be more involved next year since my job won't take me away from the campus as it did this past fall.

Jun. 5th, 2008 02:00 am Kids.... and doctors

Last month my youngest son was bitten by the neighbors dog.

Last week we took him to the doctor to see what was/is causing the pain in his stomach.

They took blood and X-Rays, X-Rays showed that his colon is impacted and that his spleen is enlarged.

Today (June 5th) we take him to get a CTScan to see what is going on. Which means that he has to drink the yuck... which he has been drinking it like a trooper... poor kid. I know he doesn't understand. (We have only told him that they want to run this test to make sure)

I will keep my LJ friends posted.

May. 31st, 2008 07:18 am the decline in cancer deaths

According to a brief research query I "discovered" that the death rate from cancer is on the decline...

Why then does it seem that more people we know are dying or suffering from it NOW?

Is it because as we grow older we see the deaths and know/understand, that we have become more aware of it? Or has it become more "Common" for people to die of cancer?

It seems that in the last 5 or so years I have known more people with some type of cancer, died from cancer or know someone with cancer....

May. 31st, 2008 07:13 am A teenages boy tries to explain

(Computer crashed sorry if this double posted)

I discovered that my almost 16 y/o son is interested in the poly choices.

His girlfriend of 4-5 months is not "happy" with his decision to date others as well as her.

She is almost 15 and he tried to explain that it's high school and he should be allowed the freedoms of dating multiple people.

He explained that when I was a young woman I dated a few people at once but was usually only involved "romantically" (heavy petting, making out) with only one person while my other relationships were more friend based until I was more secure in who I was and chose to become more involved with my other dating partners. (Still typically having sexual relations with only one or two and heavy petting, making out with one or two others)

Her reply was that that wasn't open minded that was slutty... this pissed my son off and he left her at the place they were with friends. She called him to apologize and he wasnt having any of it. On his myspace he wrote about what happened and tried to clarify my decisions and being a teenager with someone who is a slut. His basic conclusion was that a slut will engage in sexual acts with ANYONE with out reason or friendship ties.... that a slut was random whit no personal involvement.

His girlfriend understood what he was trying to say (or so she says) but she doesn't think that he should date anyone but her... and that if his choice is to do so she won't date him anymore.

This brings me to my question... does anyone out there have any advice? He wants to be open about things and explore options but he really likes this girl and doesn't want to hurt her.

We all remember this age and the dilemmas we faced... Did anyone make the choices I did to date multiple people? My mother never interfered and respected my choice to date multiple partners both male and female with out question. Oh did I mention that his girlfriend is bi-explorative and thinks it is OK for her to have him and a chick friend?

Thanks... it's tough raising good consciously aware kids... especially teen aged boys. :)

May. 28th, 2008 11:10 pm Living above my means

Ok so once we moved I did all the hoop jumping to let the state government know that 1.) my rent went up from 600.00 to 750.00 and 2.) that I moved... they get kinda pissy if you don't do that.

Once I did this I was sent a letter stating in part that with my rent at 750.00 and the estimated cost of my utilities I was currently living above my means. (I get SSA) I was also told in this letter I needed a new landlord verification form... which they didn't send with the letter... duh!

I called the DSHS office and explained that DUH I had been living above my means for YEARS and this was the first time they cared. The woman on the other end of the line asked if I was getting paid money under the table... um no... I am not and IF I was would I really tell her??? Probably not.

What more I collect more than allowed by DSHS so I do NOT qualify for cash assistance... BUT I have as I mentioned earlier been living above my means for YEARS.

The woman asked me if I didn't get child support from my children's father... I just laughed... No I don't he doesn't think he owes any since he had them for 6 years and *I* didn't pay support... because I was/am on government assistance. HE collected cash benefits when he had them and was working a job.... (Was Louisiana not Washington) She suggested I call support enforcement and see what they tell me. Since my divorce decreed doesn't have a parent plan and according to it he has domicidal residency with both of us having custody I think I am fucked for child support even tho I have them now.

Anyway ain't the government grand? I get less than 1000.00 a month rent is 750.00 and I have lights, garbage, water and telephone (which are considered must haves) as well as everyday living expenses such as toilet paper, clothing and other things kids need and have been managing this for YEARS with what I get when I am not working... So tell me how can I live, raise children and stay above water????

When I DID work it was only three months out of the year and as many of you may have read I resigned from that position due to inner-office crap. Now as I search for a job I am either over qualified, under-qualified or they find away to NOT hire me without saying "We aren't hiring you because your eyes are bad and we don't want to make accommodations for you like we are supposed to."

OK I wish I knew how to make LJ cuts so this wouldn't be so long for those of you who don't actually want to read through everything I say....

Peace!

May. 17th, 2008 11:46 am Dog Bite

My youngest son was bitten by a dog last night. No it wasn't a stray or a "vicious animal" but a dog on a chain in his own yard.

That said No Jordan wasn't doing the dog anything and yes he had permission to be in the yard.

He was going to play with the kids who were playing in the same yard and apparently got to close to the path of the dog.

The dog grabbed his leg and drug and shook his leg, leaving thee puncture wounds.

When the guy can banging on my front door with a lip child in his arms the first thing I thought was "Oh God he was hit by a car!", second was, "He was in a fight and lost, BAD!"

The guy was nearly in tears himself, saying I couldn't get to him in time... and he was sorry.

We hurriedly got in the car which means I left insurance information here (Good thing Jordan has been in the ER a few times I guess) When we arrived we were again thankful for the handicapped parking privileges I have because of being disabled.

As soon as we walked in the greeter offered a wheel chair and started asking questions... the receptionist's first question was did we call the police... my reply was none to friendly when I said THAT wasn't the first thing on my mind... They have to inform the police... which the owner had done already. Good thing I suppose.

We didn't sit for long...

We never actually saw an ER doc... Part of me finds that odd....

After the interview with the police officer who was very awesome they started numbing him and preparing to clean the wound.

They aren't supposed to stitch dog bites... for risk of infection. He needed them, the dog had apparently pulled the first layers away from his leg which means that when the guy would clean one wound the liquid would come out of the others (Which apparently is not good)

12 stitches later we were sent home with horse pill antibiotics and fresh dressings and told to take ibuprofen and Tylenol for the pain. (My son doesn't respond to those so we give him low dose children's aspirin sparingly)

Needless to say last night/this early morning was filled with tears and pain when he woke up at 3am (It;s been YEARS since I got up at 3am with my boys --- diapers come to mind) After giving him more aspirin I told him stories until the meds eased the pain for him to go back to sleep.

After all this your wondering what will happen to the dog I am sure.

Nothing, the state of Washington gives dogs "one free bite" unless the damage is extensive or results in death. If the animal doesn't have it's rabies shot (Which this one did, he is a pound puppy) the animal must be quarantined 10 days at the owners expense and if it results in rabies it is euthanized at the owners expense.

If this dog has a history of aggressive behavior or bites again it will be euthanized.

Sighs... 12 stitches... all I can say it it could have been worse.

I did take pics of the bite as did the police officer. Mine is on my myspace...

May. 16th, 2008 11:55 am Resignation and truth

As some of you know I resigned from Liberty yesterday.

I walked in and the FIRST thing out of the owner's mouth was I owe you guys an apology.

His wife had jumped his case about not mentioning the work Chris, myself and Amy had done after the flood. Chris and myself were the one's to call him to notify him of the flooded office building, clean-up, MOVING the wet and nasty office furniture from the flooded building to the new office and the subsequent clean up. Amy helped with the re-organization of the office when it was ready to move back into as well as cleaned the new office and set it up. This had slipped my mind. I did that because I knew what being flooded was all about and the work that went into getting things done quickly and safely.

(plus he thanked us at the beginning of the season at the Policies and Procedures meeting)

The owner turned to me and said we need to talk... I told him not to say anything until I was done.

I handed him my letter of resignation and turned to face him and said, "I quit". He looked shocked... I went into the "speech" I had semi prepared in my mind telling him that I really enjoyed working with him and everyone else but that I felt as if I was not appreciated and that my work was "unimportant" to him and the growth of his business. Citing his comment about 40% increase in clients this season, I asked him where exactly did he think that growth came from? Myself and KB... as well as the wavers.

After telling this to him his reply was, well I am discontinuing the Marketing Manager position because I can not afford to have that department. He is considering having the store managers do their marketing for their own offices, which apparently Yelm has been doing because their Marketing Manager has had "issues" and could not do her job.

I do not think the managers will be able to do an effective job at marketing, none of them will have time, nor does it appear that they WANT to do it. When you do marketing it isn't just about the wavers, you have to go to functions for the Chamber, go into businesses for B2B work, plan at least two road side parties as well as field phone calls from solicitors and small newspapers. This is NOT a job for a store manager. They just really don't have the time... (HAHA They'll get Chuck, that'll do em a lot of good... *Grumbles about him being a jerk, male chauvinist pig "master" bullshitter etc* ~or~ someone else who is always showing up stoned....)

I DID offer to come and assist when they are planning the roadside parties as long as it doesn't interfere with what I happen to be doing work-wise. I do enjoy doing that and it is community service and involvement.

Chris and I feel that if I would have stayed on I would have been busted down to preparer again, meaning that I would have taken a HUGE cut in pay and STILL been doing the marketing work.

I was not being paid what I was worth... I made a flat rate of $1000.00 and was ONLY supposed to work 20 hrs per week (Which broke down to 13 per hr @ 20 hrs per week), many times I put in more that 20 hrs per week... and didn't receive compensation for the "overtime", Just as KB was only supposed to work 15 hrs but had put in MANY hours more on her own time which I also think sucked.

After it was all said and done I finished getting my friend Mars' tax return together to mail to him next day in Louisiana the Owner didn't speak to me... his loss not mine... However it cost ME 25.00 to mail the return to him when I think the owner should have paid to have it next day'ed to him since NO ONE called the guy to tell him why it was taking so freakin' long to get his fed money back.

We are guessing that the owner will call next season begging for me to come help... I am NOT doing it all for free... Parties yeah OK but B2B and other related work no.

AND we both know his wife is gonna be PISSED when she finds out because I was one of the few people in any of the current offices she actually liked and respected.

(Plus I learned that she also jumped his shit for "forgetting" me at the end of season dinner not just for the flood stuff)

Oh and both Chris and I DID receive crappy sweat shirts, just in time for the 90 degree weather... ahhhh....

May. 14th, 2008 09:47 pm Job searching and a rant

Sounds like I will be interviewing my life away with no hope of getting a decent job out of the massive number of interviews.

I just want a job that offers me a place to express myself and show off my interesting personality...

I did interview with a local IT company Monday and will know what their decision will be on Friday. If they don't hire me then I go forward... I have an interview in Olympia on Monday for an insurance agency doing marketing and staff management for them.

HERE IS WHERE THE RANT STARTS

Tomorrow I go and turn in my resignation from Liberty Tax Services for whom I have worked for for three tax seasons, two of which I was marketing manager.

Those of you who know me know that I LOVED my job at Liberty, bull crap and all. This year was the final straw. The purpose of having a marketing manager in part is to have that person do research on where a new office should go, getting the new office recognized and planning all the events for the local offices. Which I did.

As far as the new office goes I told them that it wasn't in a viable location. That we should have hit the east end of the county (Morton, Packwood etc.) No one would listen to me.... Block moved into that area and made a KILLING... that could have been us! That one Block made more profit that their two offices in Centralia or Chehalis... Which means that they out sold us ten fold in a location I said was where we should go.

Also at our end of the year party it was said that we increased "our" client base by 40%, when it came time to recognize those that made this possible they called the office managers (Who in my opinion didn't need recognition for the increase in client base)... and then the wavers (Who are our MAIN but not ONLY marketing tool)... Was I the only one who noticed that the MARKETING MANAGER (Me) and my assistant (KB) weren't thanked?

Where do they think the 40% increase came from? Not just from the wavers... But from KB and myself busting our asses to get the client base built up. Also, I think that the Chehalis Blood Drive should have been mentioned... but that's just me. I don't want the crappy sweat shirt, I want the kudos and accolades that are rightfully mine and my assistant's. For without OUR work there would not have been a 40% increase in clients.

I think it is time for me to step down and let someone else handle the Liberty marketing now.

Hopefully I leave on good terms, for I do have "friends" there and hope that we can continue a working relationship when it comes time for tax season once again.

May. 5th, 2008 06:55 am *Yawn* Monday... life update

Well it has been 4 weeks today since my surgery and things are doing well.

I did develop an infection in my left eye lid, the doctor said this was caused by the stitch rubbing the inside and abrading it and my body's inability to do both heal the surgical site and the abrasion. This infection was not fun.

I became EXTREMELY sensitive to light and by 8pm or so could no longer really keep either eye open. What was "Fun" was my friend Tarraccas and I went to see The Forbidden Kingdom with Jackie Chan and Jet Li and I had to wear sunglasses and my hood to keep the light from the screen from bugging me. (I was really glad that it wasn't a bright movie.) Tarraccas said I looked like a movie star trying to hide from the public behind dark sunglasses. :)

The infection has cleared up and things seem to be back on track with the healing process.

We are completely moved in and don't look like we have only been in the house a few weeks. With the exception of the "spare" room behind the livingroom fireplace, it has become storage since there is no heat in there and it is cavelike. I was going to put my computer in there but instead set it up by the sliding door where I can get some light and still interact with the family. (I don't spend nearly as much time online as I once did)

I am excited that spring is finally trying to arrive. This weekend was warm and inviting but I didn't spend much time out of doors. It seems that my youngest son is allergic to springtime. (No really) His allergies were running amok and he was sick most of Sunday with a mild fever and headache, and when he is ill he likes for me to be close by... which is cool with me.

Today is supposed to be another fairly nice day according to weather reports and then back to rain tomorrow. I don't mind the rain here in Washington State. It rarely down-pours and if it does it usually only lasts for a few minutes. What I don't "like" is the fact that it is still dipping down below 40 at night... Ok so it barely is reaching 70 right now as well... the temp change from night and day are what really make mine as well as my son's allergies and sinuses go berserk.

Anyway, I hope that you all are well and that you are enjoying the beginnings of spring-time.

No for the day to begin... Waiting on someone to pick up the bag of dog food I put on FreeCycle, the Landlord's nephew to fix the bathroom sink and kitchen sink... Maybe I'll catch a nap soon. Was supposed to bring the cat to the vet but my oldest son fed her because he forgot that she wasn't supposed to eat... so we reschedule that for tomorrow....

Mar. 26th, 2008 06:40 am And the madness begins!

Well as some of you know my ex-husband comes to visit once a year and that time is fast approaching.

This year he has finally "decided" to bring his boyfriend of almost 4 years with him. (By decided I mean that his boyfriend got tired of being left out, and don't blame him)

After much niggling with departure dates and arrival times they have (I think) finally set on Saturday March 29th(This COULD change)I found out after speaking with my folks that he wanted to know if my dad would "loan" him money so he could come.

My dad said he didn't think so; he told my ex that if he couldn't afford to come then he shouldn't come. (I never went home if my husband and I could not afford it as it is a VERY expensive journey both monetarily and emotionally. However he managed to mooch two tickets from someone they know who works for an airline.

Anyway, last time he was here my husband and I footed the gas for the car even tho he rented the car we were using to go about the state in. (This year he is only renting a car for a few days; and he says what he is renting will not fit all 6 of us.) We also paid for food and lodging (HE stays with us because he is too cheap to get a hotel room)

This year we have a VERY small two bedroom apartment and an "extra" person staying with us until May. (That's another entry for a later date) And instead of getting a room down the road from us he insists on staying here. (Which means we will be stacking people like cord wood)

My oldest son REFUSED for his father and his "friend" to sleep in my youngest's bed across the room from him. So our house guest will be staying in there and my ex and his "friend" will be sleeping on the couches. My ex isn't happy about this arrangement, for you see my house guest is a 25 year old woman... and my oldest son is 15 1/2(my ex thinks that this is inappropriate) However I know that my house guest treats my children like her siblings and doesn't have designs on my son in that way...

On to what I mean by madness....

My oldest son absolutey HATES his father. (There are many reasons one of the biggest is that when they lived with him his "relationship" with a "boy" 4 or 5 years older than my oldest was more important to him. (My ex is over 40 and at the time the "boy" he was involved with was just barely 18) So I guess my sons both have seen more than they really should have. Also my ex was very neglectful and they resent him for this, mainly my oldest since he seemed to be the one who was "pushed aside".

This morning the boys got up for school and my oldest was screaming at his brother... this is a sign that the stress level has amplified... and that he stands a chance of becoming aggressive... (He is mildly autistic) My youngest has ADHD and anger managemnet issues... these things will be amplified in the coming week.

My youngest typically regresses when his father comes, speaking in a baby-ish voice and generally acting below his age range, this takes a few weeks to "break" after his father has come and gone.

The older child becomes sullen and barely speaks to ANYONE and typically doesn't speak to his father at all when he is here.

Their dad will aggravate and annoy both of them... sometimes into rages and then he says it is MY fault that they are behaving this way when he is here... this is not true. They have there own opinions of how they feel about him. I gave up trying to change how they see him.

Some of you may be asking, "Shay, why don't you stop the visits?" If I could I would... but there is no parent plan from our divorce other than what the divorce decree says. My oldest son decided to stay here after Katrina and thus my youngest stayed... (He isn't old enough to legally make the decision) What I am worried about but doubt will happen is if I tell him he can not come he will petition the courts for them to go back since again there was no amendment made to the divorce decree.

My oldest only has 2 years before he can legally say he doesn't want to see him (In Washington State he is old enough to chose which parent he wants to stay with) But the youngest is only 11)

Anyway, so if any of you have good energy to spare send it our way please??? Next week will be a week from hell....

Thanks for "listening"
Shay

Mar. 12th, 2008 12:00 am Attorney's ADVICE-NO CHARGE

Attorney's ADVICE-NO CHARGE

Not A Joke!! If you dislike attorneys..... You will love them for these tips.

Read this and make a copy for your files in case you need to refer to it someday. Maybe we should all take some of his advice! A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his
company.

1. Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put "PHOTO ID REQUIRED."

2. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the "For" line.
Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling
your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won't have access to it.

3. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have It printed, anyone can get it.

4. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or
abroad. We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed on us in stealing a Name, address, Social Security number , credit cards. Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have first hand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(S) ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online, and more.

But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:

5. We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your
card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them.

6. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one).

But here's what is perhaps most important of all: (I never even thought to do this.)

7. Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and also call the Social Security fraud line number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the internet in my name.

The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit.

By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the
credit checks initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks.

Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, if it has been stolen:

1.) Equifax:
1-800-525-6285

2.) Experian (formerly TRW): 1-888-397-3742

3.) Trans Union:

4.) Social Security Administration (fraud line):
1-800-269-0271

If you are willing to pass this information along, it could really help someone that you care about.

Mar. 1st, 2008 08:36 am Just not in the mood

Today is one of those BIG PARTIES I through every tax season.

This year I am doing three... I typically only do one but corporate teamed up with March of Dimes and we did one for that in January (WET and Raining) and one in April for March of Dimes, Dances for Babies".

On March 15 I am doing the third annual "Cell Phones for Soldiers" Roadside Party with a blood drive...

Today is March Madness, Customer Appreciation" Day... I have hot dogs, chips and drinks as well as a DJ spinning some tunage.

Today it is raining and nasty, which means that people won't come... (I didn't want to do two parties, but we opened a new office so thats where this one is)

Usually I am pumped and excited... but not toda, maybe it's the rain, maybe it's just because I have crap load os things to do... maybe, maybe it is just me.

Nothing is done the way I would have done it, but ultimately it isn't my decision... I wanted to BBQ the hot dogs, the owner wants them boiled... (Blech!)

Anyway, gotta drag myself up and get dressed...

What I want to do this year is spin the tunage... NOT be running around being in charge... *SOBS, SIGHS*

Feb. 28th, 2008 01:44 am Have I mentioned I hate my job this season?

I don't have Deepest Sender so I don't know how to do LJ Cuts... Sorry.

OK, I am doing Marketing for the income tax agency I have worked for for three seasons now. (this is my second season as the marketing manager)

Here are my gripes.
1. Don't ask my opinion on something and then not take it into consideration.
A. When asked at the end of last season where I thought a third office should go I suggested Morton WA (About an hour away near White Pass) Instead of doing what the LOCAL person suggested, the person with the marketing training but just basically picking a"random" place about 4 miles from the OTHER location in a BAD location) NO, might I point out that the office location I suggested had NO income tax agency and BLOCK moved in and is reaping the benefits (Making THREE times that our THREE stores are making combined)
B. Don't ask me where I think we should advertise, make me go all over town getting prices and NOT take my advice!
C. Don't assume that I don't have a problem with the decisions you make AFTER you complain to me that what "We" are doing isn't working.

2. If my job is managing the "Animated Advertisers" then DON'T tell me who I should hire, where I should schedule them and how I suck because everyone I have hired has gotten sic or just doesn't show up ever again. Also, this is my job, don't have other people micro manage me.

3. DON'T have the "office manager" manage me or my people. Thats my job.

4. If you have something I need to know, don't tell some and so to tell so and so to tell me. We should have meetings, not fleeting conversations or filtered information.

5. When I renegotiated my salary this season I was told that I could only work 20 hours per week. Guess what... I work at least 30 and don't get paid for it... 13 per hour MAX pay 1000.00 a month for the 20 doesn't cover the "extra" hours I work without pay. Nor will the "bonus" I am supposed to receive.

6. If I bring clients with small discounts don't bitch... at least we have customers in our suck ass office that I said was a bad location.

Finally, LISTEN to me, we could be making BANK and when I told you this you looked at me completely lost and said, "What do you want me to do about it. It;s too late to do that now." GRRRRR... BANK I tell you!!!! 3X's what the THREE office we currently have.... BANK!!!

Oh and don't go to Olympia, that market is already saturated... Go someplace that doesn't have a saturation. Like you will listen to me anyway....

OK Thank you to all of those that sat through this rant. I have been griping and complaining to my friends as of late and figured I should blog it, maybe I would feel better... I don't... But thats me.

Also, I threated to quit, that didn't really phase anyone but the office manager in Chehalis... She knows nothing would be done if I left...

Jan. 29th, 2008 07:45 pm Life...

So far this year has been a bit hectic... with work, school and kids.

Perhaps I will slow down soon.
